Advice on how to detect and remedy WM damage found on guide shoes. A picture of typical WM chips has been added for better identification.
This service letter applies to the WinGD engines listed above which were ordered before January 2020.
Small-sized bearing White Metal (WM) breakouts from an isolated area on the guide shoe radial bearings have been reported on several engines in service. This is linked to the chamfering applied to the bearings and has no effect on safe engine operation.

A dressing up procedure was introduced in SL-0049. This update (SL-0049-1) provides a picture of the typical appearance of these WM breakouts for better identification.
WinGD recommends not to proactively overhaul cylinder units if such WM pieces are found, as safe engine operation is still ensured.
